I am the assistant pastor
of the Westerville Free Will Baptist Church on the north side of Columbus,
Ohio. Nearly three years ago, my wife and I were expecting our second
child. During a level two ultra sound, our unborn baby was diagnosed with
anencephaly. Anencephaly is the only neural tube defect that has a 100%
fatality rate.
Our faith in God and our
love for our child was tested. Of course, we had a doctor who was pushing
us to abort the pregnancy. The Lord blessed us by leading us to another
doctor in Dublin, OH who is a Christian and specializes in high risk
pregnancies.
The Lord blessed us to have
our little David with us for 21 hours. Shortly after David’s death, a
pastor friend said to me, “Paul, you and Frances will be able to minister to
people in a way that I can’t.” In seeking God’s face concerning His will
and how I could use this event in my life to minister to people, I have
written a book entitled “Genuine Faith and the Test of Love.”
I wrote this book with the
goal of taking the reader through the events, emotions and decisions that
had to be made. In doing so, I have tried to draw lessons and principles
from the Bible that can be applied to any situation when one’s faith is
tested.
The
first fruits of the royalties that I receive will go to my local church.
Then, I will make contributions to the Pregnancy Decision Health Centers in
central Ohio and the Hope Center of the Free Will Baptist Family Ministries
in Greeneville, TN. A total of 50% of the royalties will be used to support
these ministries, the prevention of abortion and the care of women in crisis
pregnancy.
