are the most recent published, the CDC (Center for
Disease Control) has noted that more recent data indicate that
anesthesia complications are no longer the
leading cause of death. In fact, the causes of death
are fairly equally distributed among hemorrhage, infection,
embolism and anesthesia complications (Bartlett,
2001).
• Two-thirds of anesthesia deaths are attributed to
complications of general anesthesia.
